Jumping through Hoops

I learned something today in math class. No it wasn't algebra or whatever. It was the phrase "jumping through hoops".
It means to do something to get to something else previously unattainable. Example. I have to jump thru some hoops to get to university. What hoops? Secondary school. High school. More specifically, learn calculus, english literature, geography etc. They are pretty much useless, these subjects. Unless you want to be some math professor, poet or a weatherman, chances are you won't be using the stuff you learn from these classes in the future.
Why do we have to do these useless things then you ask. They won't be helping us in the future... we must as well go work instead. Working at macs would at least give us some cold hard cash.. much wiser than studying about the gradients of parabolic curves right? At least we can see and smell the fruits of our labour. Correct? Yah i used to think like that too, until about 1pm today...
So why do it? Why waste a fraction of our life studying something which will be useless? Well... it's how this world works. If you want to go far in life(generically) , you gotta have those pieces of paper called certificates. You need degrees. You wanna be a lawyer, get a degree. You wanna be a surgeon, get a degree. You wanna be a pastor, you still need to graduate from bible school! It's protocol. It's how the world works. Unfortunately.
God has a plan for all of us. Ultimately, the plan of God is to use us to reach out to people who have yet to know Him. In whatever unique way, that is the primary goal. But for now, our goal as students is to excel and become who God wants us to become (career wise), so that we will be able to maximize our potential in winning the lost.
